How I Started Selling On EBay

Posted on 21 April 2008

Before I start getting into detailed ways of finding items to sell on eBay, I want to give you the background on how I got started selling…

The year was 1998 and I saw an editorial on the new emerging eBay trend on a news website that I frequented. I was on my lunch break at my job when I read about it. I remember being so excited the whole day about all the possibilities of this new online venue. I could hardly wait to get home and find out more.

When I got home, I spent the whole night doing research on eBay and I liked what I saw. There seemed to be a lot of people on eBay and there seemed to be a lot of items listed… The thing that finally sold me on the idea is that people were actually bidding on the stuff that was being listed and I couldn’t believe how much money the items were bringing.

I HAD TO GET SOMETHING LISTED RIGHT AWAY!!!

What could I sell? I went immediately to my storage closet and pulled out an old Atari 2600 that had about 50 games with it. It had been collecting dust since the late 1980’s… I figured it would be a great item to get started with. But, would anyone buy such an obsolete piece of 80’s pop culture? BUY IT THEY DID!!!

When the auction was over, I had made over $200 on something that I would have given away for free if someone would have asked me for it. I couldn’t believe it… I was hooked. EBay is what I wanted to do. For the next few weeks, I couldn’t get enough… I sold so much stuff around the house that the cat was hiding thinking she was going to be sold next!
