I want to start off this post by letting you this is exactly what I did. I sell over $300,000 in merchandise every year on eBay and I have never invested a penny of my own money besides what I rolled back into the business.

One very important point when starting to sell on eBay is to not invest your own money right away. Instead roll every penny you make back into the business at first… If you have already sold everything you can find around your house and you have begged and pleaded with your friends and family to sell their extra stuff then you should have a nice little stack of cash ready to invest. However, if you use that money to pay bills or just have to have that new outfit, it will take you much longer to build enough money to get your eBay business rolling.

Not too long ago, I was teaching a friend how to sell on eBay. She sold things around her house and gathered enough seed money to start her eBay business. She actually had a nice niche on eBay carved out for herself selling vintage hats. However, she started spending more than she was making and before long didn’t have enough funds to continue the business.

Even if you do have the money laying around to invest, I suggest that you only use reinvested profits at first. You want to slowly ease your way onto eBay. By reinvesting just your profits you will pace yourself and learn everything you need to know to run a successful eBay business.

Even though you feel like you are going slow, that seed money will grow quicker than you think. Before long you will have enough money to really start growing your eBay empire plus have the knowledge under your belt to do it the right way.

This is my first post on the actual purpose of this site - Finding stuff to sell on eBay. So, I will start off with the easiest and quickest place you can find stuff to sell (and what I started with)… Stuff sitting around your own house.

Not only is this the quickest and easiest way to start selling on eBay, but it is a VERY important step in starting your eBay business! It sounds easy to start selling on eBay and it is, however it does take a little time to get used to all the steps involved in selling. This is the perfect opportunity to get your eBay business off the ground with no investment in inventory and without having the pressure of trying to get your investment back from an inventory purchase.

There are thousands of different items you could sell, but here are a few ideas to get your brains going:

Gift Closet - I am sure you have a closet full of gifts that you received and never opened. I am sure there are hundreds of people out there looking for that exact item.

Books/CDs/DVDs/Video Games - How often do you actually use these products? These are great sellers on eBay and a great way to get started.

Jewelry & Watches - Broken or not, these items sell really well.

Clothes - I know you have tons of clothes in your closet that you haven’t worn for a very long time… Well, now is the time to get rid of those old rags (especially the ones that still have the tags).

Old Sporting Goods - No time to play golf? Too out of shape to hit the tennis courts? Now is the time to get rid of those sporting goods that you no longer use.

So, if you are new to EBay, get to searching for stuff around your house… You will find more to sell than you think and you will gain valuable experience and get some money in your PayPal account to start buying some inventory.

Before I start getting into detailed ways of finding items to sell on eBay, I want to give you the background on how I got started selling…

The year was 1998 and I saw an editorial on the new emerging eBay trend on a news website that I frequented. I was on my lunch break at my job when I read about it. I remember being so excited the whole day about all the possibilities of this new online venue. I could hardly wait to get home and find out more.

When I got home, I spent the whole night doing research on eBay and I liked what I saw. There seemed to be a lot of people on eBay and there seemed to be a lot of items listed… The thing that finally sold me on the idea is that people were actually bidding on the stuff that was being listed and I couldn’t believe how much money the items were bringing.

I HAD TO GET SOMETHING LISTED RIGHT AWAY!!!

What could I sell? I went immediately to my storage closet and pulled out an old Atari 2600 that had about 50 games with it. It had been collecting dust since the late 1980’s… I figured it would be a great item to get started with. But, would anyone buy such an obsolete piece of 80’s pop culture? BUY IT THEY DID!!!

When the auction was over, I had made over $200 on something that I would have given away for free if someone would have asked me for it. I couldn’t believe it… I was hooked. EBay is what I wanted to do. For the next few weeks, I couldn’t get enough… I sold so much stuff around the house that the cat was hiding thinking she was going to be sold next!

Hello… My name is Jason Watson and I have been an active trader on eBay since 1998. I have been selling online as my full time income since 2002 and this year I am looking at another record year in income. Overall, I estimate that I have sold nearly 250,000 items on ebay over the last decade. I have consistently sold over $300k in merchandise for the last few years and I am nearing one of eBay’s top 200 volume sellers. Business is GOOD…

I have sold many, many different items in the past. You name it and I have probably sold it at one point or another. From video games to sports memorabilia… From DVDs to Antiques… From jewelry to cosmetics… I have even sold vehicles and auto parts! To be able to sell such a wide variety of items, you must know and use many different sources to find those items. Because of this, I consider myself somewhat of an expert on how to find items to sell on eBay…

After selling such a variety of items for so many years, I kept going back to selling music CDs. Other products made more profit, but I believe that my love of music and other factors have led me to selling only CDs for the last 2 years. I sell about 1,700 CDs per week and with one employee, that takes most of my time.

The idea of Auction Arena came about after the constant questions of where I get my stuff to sell on ebay. I have all this knowledge about product sourcing that I no longer use because I only sell one type of item… Why not put all of that information down for the use of others.

Auction Arena will be a unique guide on where to find stuff to sell on eBay. There are tons of people that claim to be experts and everyone has information to sell. However, I can guarantee that this is the first time information has been written from someone who has sold as many items on eBay as I have. I will give you honest and true information on what to sell, where to find it, and the best way to get the most profit.

So, if you are new to eBay or just looking on expanding your eBay empire, check back often for updated and useful information on all things eBay!!!
